Pride is a symptom of a dualistic perception/conception of existence and the self-centered consciousness that focuses on concentric degrees of loyalties and competitors/opponents/threats based on the fundamentally adversarial separation of self vs other. This is very common to the pathology of an upbringing in a dualistic theology such as those originating in the Middle East, i.e. Christianity, Islam and Judaism, which have common origins in earlier anthropomorphic monotheistic systems.
